Tunable Frame drums (Pezhvāk)

After an extensive research and a great deal of work, HaPa Drums succeeded in producing and presenting handcrafted high quality tunable frame drums. For the very first time, Pejman Hadadi assembled tunable frame drums on drum-stands and innovated a unique hand-drum set. With this brand new setup, he introduced and adapted a new sound into Iranian percussion music. This innovation has caught the attention of percussionists and musicians in the recent years. "Pezhvāks" that were known as " Pendārik" before, could be used in an orchestral format along with melodic instruments as well as a solo performance.
The synthetic drumhead used on Pezhvāks is known, as “Diplomat", a Remo Company production.

At present, Pezhvāks are made in three different sizes with the following specifications:

  1. Bass Pezhvāk: 20” in diameter, “Diplomat” drumhead. Tunable to reach C, D, E notes.
  2. Medium Pezhvāk: 16” in diameter, “Diplomat” drumhead. Tunable to reach F, G, A notes.
  3. Small Pezhvāk: 14" in diameter, “Diplomat” drumhead. Tunable to reach A, B, C (higher octave) notes.
  4. Black Bass Pezhvāk: 12” in diameter, “Bahia” drumhead. This particular drum produces a very low-end bass sound. Tension of the drumhead is adjustable with the tuning-pegs around the frame.
  5. Kanjira Pezhvāk: 10” in diameter, “Goat skin” drumhead. The Indian Kanjira inspired this design. The sound it produces in similar to the Kanjira with some differences in sound timber. It could be played hand-held, or mounted on drum stand.
